City Mayor of Leicester visits partner's home despite lockdown restrictions
Sir Peter Soulsby has apologised after visiting his partner's home numerous times during lockdown.
The 71-year-old City Mayor of Leicester lives in Evington but was spotted visiting his partner's home five miles away while lockdown restrictions were in place due to coronavirus.
He was pictured by neighbours at his partner, Lesley Summerland's home completing odd jobs. He also stayed overnight at the house.
Photographs were published in a national newspaper on Sunday (June 14th).
There have since been calls for Sir Peter Soulsby, a former Labour MP for Leicester South, to resign, and he has been accused of hypocrisy for urging residents to abide by lockdown regulations but then not doing so personally.
Leicestershire Police has said it's taking no further action as the allegations related to a potential 'historic breach' of restrictions.
Sir Peter Soulsby has said he is "very, very sorry," but has also said that he "will not be resigning."
Sir Peter Soulsby has been criticised by Liberal Democrats councillor Nigel Porter who called for him to step down.
