A silent vigil was held at Victoria Park in Leicester in memory of George Floyd whose killing in America has prompted worldwide protests including several in the Midlands over the weekend.

Protesters kneeled on one knee for 8 minutes 46 seconds, the amount of time an American police officer knelt on Mr Floyd’s neck before he died.

Tara Munroe, the organiser explained why the vigil was so important. She said: “The systemic racism and institutionalised racism is really deep-rooted, and we need to ask people to start calling out their friends.

"Because if you see it, if you're around it, don't just walk past it, say something, do something, make a complaint. It's people who've got to stand up for us now."
