'Drop dead of coronavirus': Woman jailed after spitting at police officer

A woman has been jailed after she spat at a police officer and shouted: "Drop dead of coronavirus."

Donna Selvey from Sparkhill spat in the face of a police officer and made the threat after becoming violent while in custody in Oldbury.

The incident happened on March 29 when she became verbally abusiveand complained of back pain.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A response officer wasspeaking to Selvey through the hatch to arrange a nurse visit whenshe spat in the PC's face and shouted 'drop dead of coronavirus'.

"The 33-year-old was further arrested and charged with assaulting an officer."

Selvey had been in custody as she was wanted for breaching a previouscourt order.

She was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at Wolverhampton MagistratesCourt on Wednesday, May 13.
