Pensioners have spoken of their dismay after 30 tyres were dumped in an alleyway behind their Stoke-on-Trent bungalows.

A white man van was seen pulling into Nellan Crescent, Smallthorne,Staffordshire, at around 12noon yesterday (May 11) before driving offseconds later.

It comes after a huge spike in fly-tipping incidents across the citysince the country went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Roy Walley, who spotted the van arriving said: "They've done this in broad daylight. It's the brazen cheek that gets me."

"There's a row of six bungalows with a bank entry. I saw this big white van coming down and it went all the way to the end."

The 78-year-old added: "I thought it was going to the last bungalow but when I looked it had gone. I thought to myself 'there's something going on here' and when I went to investigate I saw that 20 to 30 tyres had been dumped.

"I rang the council and gave them the details but I got cut off. It's the first time anything like this has happened around here. All the neighbours sweep up their entries so it is normally very tidy."
