"You could not have cared less": Man caught on video dumping heaps of rubbish including asbestos
A man who dumped heaps of rubbish - which contained asbestos - near a park in Nottinghamshire, has been given a suspended jail sentence.
32-year-old Nathan Cossey was caught on video by council officers as he fly-tipped five heaps of rubbish near Colwick Park.
One pile contained asbestos - and the judge ordered Nathan Cossey to pay £5,000 towards its specialist removal.
Cossey was given an eight-month prison term, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 200 hours community work.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that Cossey dumped the rubbish over a two-week period, starting in August 2018.
He was said to be deeply upset by the suicide of a close friend, who was to be the best man at his wedding.
Cossey was seen in a van by council officers, telling them he was looking for scrap and was seeking a scrap metal licence.
The court heard Cossey had been working for a scrap metal collector but had been asked to remove asbestos and other building materials.
He has since attended "a waste management course" which dealt with handling asbestos.
