Aston Villa and Derby County among clubs praised for helping fans with dementia

One of England's top doctors has praised community schemes run by professional clubs for fans with dementia, including those set up by Aston Villa and Derby County.

Professor Alistair Burns says the schemes will help to extend and improve lives for people living with dementia.

Dementia is a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning, leading to memory loss, thinking speed and mental sharpness.

Professor Burns is encouraging more older people to get involved in activities such as walking football to keep their brains active.
