Nottingham East MP vows to donate large amount of salary to charities
Nottingham East's MP vows that she will donate a large amount of her salary to local charities.
Labour's Nadia Whittome - who at 23 is the country's youngest MP - has said that she will take home a a "worker's wage" of £35,000 after tax, with the rest being donated to local causes.
The basic annual salary for an MP (from April 1 2019) before tax is £79,468.
Ms Whittome says that she hopes her decision "sparks a conversation about earnings."
Nadia Whittome also said that representing the city where she was born and raised was "the greatest honour" of her life.
She grew up in The Meadows as the "daughter of working class immigrants" and will represent Nottingham East constituents in the House of Commons after receiving 25,735 votes on Friday (13 December).
