60 Sec Elec special: the biggest Winners and Losers in the Midlands

  • The Winners

There was a huge Conservative majority, with many long standing Labour seats now with a Conservative MP.

In the West Midlands they took over in Birmingham Northfield.

Stoke-On-Trent Central and Stoke-On-Trent North also went to the Conservatives, meaning for the first time ever all three Stoke seats are blue.

Both West Bromwich seats, also typically Labour, were won by the Conservatives, examples of the "Black Country Take Over".

In the East Midlands, Ashfield went Conservative along with Bolsover, Derby North and Peterborough.

  • The Losers

Labour's Dennis Skinner, nicknamed the Beast of Bolsover, lost his Derbyshire seat after 49 years as an MP.

Anna Soubry says she's relieved to be getting out of politics after a defeat to the Tories in Broxtowe.

The "great survivor" Vernon Coaker lost his seat in Gedling. After winning the seat in 1997, he's been targeted by the Conservatives in every election ever since.
