At least five injured after car crashes into tram in Wolverhampton

A tram has collided with a car in Wolverhampton this morning (Monday 19 August), injuring at least five people.

It happened at the Bilston Street roundabout.

Three crews from West Midlands Fire Service responded to the incident.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to free a woman from the car.

The British Transport Police said four tram passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and the driver of the car was taken to hospital.

Long delays are expected in the area.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said they were called "to Bilston Road, Wolverhampton, following a report of a collision between a tram and a car causing a minor derailment.

"Four passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.

"The driver of the car was taken to hospital with a minor arm injury and whiplash. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
