Birmingham man jailed for attacking elderly woman with dementia

A 24-year-old man from Birmingham who attacked an elderly woman with dementia has been jailed.

David Debney, of Church Road in Yardley, walked into The Ridings Nursing Home in Castle Vale and struck a 60-year-old immobile woman with a lamp just before 3am on Saturday 24 June 2017.

The attack left her with horrific facial injuries and she required 24 hour care in her room.

Denise Crowton passed away six months after the attack but no causal link was found between the assault and her death.

Her daughter has today released pictures of her mother’s injuries as she lay in hospital in 2017.

Debney was jailed for 12 years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (31 May).
