Two people arrested after man and boy hit by car outside mosque

Two people have been arrested after a man and a teenage boy were hit by a car outside a mosque in Leicester.

Officers were called to Humberstone Road at around 1am this morning (30 May) after reports of two people being struck by a vehicle close to the junction with Spinney Hill Road.

Both were taken to hospital, the boy sustained a minor injury while the man in his 40s is in a stable condition.

The car failed to stop at the scene and police are working to locate it.

Moments before, sisters Sairah and Asiyah Wairach were crossing the road near the mosque and were almost hit.

They were able to step out the way and were unhurt. Footage shows the moment it happened.

Masjid At-Taqwa in Leicester released a statement on Facebook wishing the man a full and speedy recovery.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the car during or since the incident to get in touch.
