Dangerous driver jailed after 80mph police pursuit

A dangerous driver who travelled through a red light before hitting speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone has been jailed.

Motorbike patrol officers asked Amjid Ali Khan to pull over when they saw he was trying to avoid them.

The 37-year-old then sped off, forcing motorists to swerve out of the way as he drove down the wrong side of a dual carriageway and the wrong way around a roundabout.

It happened in Birmingham on 8 April near the Swan Island in Yardley.

After a police pursuit that lasted a few minutes, officers abandoned their chase but his image was captured on body-worn cameras.

He was arrested days later by the officer who had first pursued him.

Khan admitted dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was jailed for 15 months and give a further three-year ban.
