Prison problems 'due to staff shortages'

An independent report has revealed that Nottingham Prison has recorded the death of five inmates, 80 fires and 200 assaults on prison staff in the past year, with many of the prison's problems being caused by staff shortages.

The report by the Independent Monitoring Board found the shortages were affecting every aspect of prison life and that they were having a significant impact on the jail's ability to rehabilitate inmates.
