It was supposed to be a holiday to celebrate the start of a new chapter.

Sue Davey, from Tamworth, and Scott Chalkley, from Derby, had just bought their first home together, and decided to herald the landmark moment in their relationship with break in the sun in Tunisia.

But their plans for a happy life together came to an end when gunman Seifeddine Rezgui attacked as they lay on the beach.

Speaking at the inquest into the massacre today, Ms Davey’s son Conor Fulford paid tribute to his mother and her partner - who, he said, had given her a “new lease of life.”

He described her as a “hands-on mother”, and said she had enjoyed “many years of lovely holidays while watching her children grow up.”

She was sorely missed by all who knew her, he said - including her two young granddaughters.

“One of the hardest things about her passing was having to explain to two little girls where their nanny had gone,” he said.

“She was a huge part of their lives, seeing them near enough every day.”

One of the girls, he added, talks about how “nanny lives in the sky”.

Mr Fulford also paid tribute to Mr Chalkley, whom his mother had met where they both worked at Severn Trent Water.

Despite being an Arsenal fan, he said, Mr Chalkley was a “really good guy, and gave my mom a lot of happiness.”
