Police to increase patrols in West Midlands after Berlin market attack

Police in the West Midlands say they're increasing patrols to provide reassurance to those in Birmingham, following the lorry attack in Berlin.

They are reviewing security arrangements for the festive period inthe wake of the attack on Monday night.

Members of the public are being urged to remain vigilant and report any concerns, as the official threat level in the UK remains at severe.

On Tuesday night Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack thatkilled 12 people and injured 50.

The attack came as an articulated lorry ploughed through huts and stalls at the Christmas market.

West Midlands Police said they were also reviewing security measures in Birmingham, to ensure the safety of visitors to the German market.

A number of security measures were agreed before the market opened, including installing some concrete bollards at a number of locations.
