Election 2018 results: Labour holds councils across Calendar region

No single party has control at Calderdale Council following yesterday's local elections.

However, Labour remains the largest party in the chamber by five seats.

The new composition is as follows:

• Labour - 24
• Conservatives - 19
• Liberal Democrats - 6
• Independents - 2

The Conservatives remain the largest party and hold a majority in Harrogate following yesterday's local elections.

Following a boundary review, the entire council was elected on Thursday with 40 seats being contested in 40 wards.

With more than half the seats declared, the Conservatives had enough seats to retain control.

New composition is as follows:

• Conservatives - 31
• Liberal Democrats - 7
• Independents - 2

No change in Craven, North Yorkshire, where the Conservatives remain the largest party.

Nine district council seats were contested and all nine were held - seven by Conservative candidates and two by Independents.

The composition of the council remains the same:

• Conservatives - 17
• Independent - 6
• Labour - 3
• Liberal Democrat - 1
• Green - 1
• UKIP - 1
• Independent aligned with Conservative group - 1

Labour has taken control of Kirklees Council for the first time since 1999.

A third of 69 seats were contested in yesterday's local elections. Before polling say Labour was the largest party but didn't have enough seats for an outright majority.

With counting well underway on Friday morning, Labour secured 36 council seats needed to secure a majority.

Liberal Democrat Councillor and Group Leader Nicola Turner lost her seat to Labour.

New composition is as follows:

• Labour - 36
• Conservatives - 20
• Liberal Democrats - 7
• Independents - 3
• Green Party 3

Turnout in the first Sheffield City Region mayoral election has been confirmed as 25.82 percent.

The total number of votes cast was 260,260. Sheffield City Region has an electorate of 1,007,985.

Turnout was lower in Rotherham and Doncaster due to no local elections there.

Voting in the election was restricted to Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley - constituent members of the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority.

Political deadlock remains in North East Lincolnshire following a dramatic night at the electoral count.

Labour is the largest party by just a single seat following yesterday's local elections. However, in the key seat of Immingham, Labour pipped Conservatives by just three votes.

An initial count was followed by two recounts. After the first count, the two candidates were separated by just one vote. On the second count, it was 13 and the final count brought the margin down to just three votes.

Meanwhile, UKIP lost three seats on a night when a third of the council, 16 seats, were being contested.

Overall, two gains for Labour mean the party is just one seat (and three votes) ahead of Conservatives in second.

Liberal Democrats made significant gains in Hull overnight but Labour remains in control of the council following yesterday's local elections.

Boundary changes meant the entire council was up for election - with all 57 council seats being contested.

The Lib Dems have seven new councillors. Labour lost seven, and Independents are down two from the previous composition.

The new look of the chamber is as follows:

• Labour - 31
• Liberal Democrats - 24
• Conservatives - 2

Labour maintains control of Lincoln City Council despite losing two seats overnight.

The Conservatives won three seats, two from Labour and one from an Independent.

A third of the council, 11 seats, were up for election.

The new composition is as follows:

• Labour - 24
• Conservatives - 9

UKIP lost its only councillor in Wakefield as Labour maintained control of the council once again.

Labour held 15 of the 17 seats it was defending.

The Conservatives were the big winners on the night, gaining two seats from Labour, one from UKIP and another from an Independent.
