Lorry driver still 'critical' after M62 crash

A lorry driver remains in a critical condition following a serious collision on the M62.

The motorway was closed between junction 24 and 21 in both directions for most of yesterday as work was carried out to fix damage to the road surface and the central reservation barrier, but it has now re-opened.

M62 likely to remain closed until 11pm

The M62 between Junction 24 and 21 is likely to remain closed until 11pm tonight as resurfacing work continues following a crash involving a lorry earlier this morning.

The lorry was removed from the scene, but motorists faces long delays and diversion as work began on fixing damage to the road surface and the central reservation barrier.

The lorry driver injured in the crash was airlifted to hospital.

Parts of M62 remain closed and delays continue

The M62 westbound remains closed with queuing traffic between junction 24 A629 (Ainley Top) and junction 21 A640 (Milnrow) following a crash this morning.

There is severe congestion to junction 25 A644 (Brighouse). Eastbound there are delays of 50 mins caused by queuing traffic between junctions 18 and 22.

There is now no estimated time for the motorway to reopen.

M62 crash: Road not expected to open until 4pm

A driver is in a critical condition in hospital after his lorry smashed through a motorway central reservation and collided with a car, a van and two other lorries on the opposite carriageway of the M62.

The crash earlier this morning resulted in queues stretching for 21 miles from junction 18, Simister Island, to past junction 24, at Ainley Top.

The Highways Agency website has now said the motorway will not fully re-open until around 4pm.

M62 crash: lorry driver airlifted to hospital

A lorry driver involved in the M62 crash this morning has been airlifted to hopsital.

The accident happened around 8.15am this morning in Greater Manchester. Parts of the motorway have been closed affecting traffic travelling to and from Huddersfield.

Greater Manchester Police say: "The lorry went through the reservation, onto the opposite side, colliding with a number of vehicles.

The lorry driver has been airlifted to hospital and is in a critical condition. It is unknown at this stage if there are any other injuries."

Recovery work is underway on the M62 following a serious crash this morning.

It happened around 8.15 am when several vehicles were in collision in Greater Manchester.

Recovery work is underway between junction 21 A640 (Milnrow) and junction 22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

There is heavy congestion to junction 23 A640/A643 (Huddersfield) and on M62 to junction 18 M60/M66 (Simister Island)
