Less could well be more for League Two leaders Chesterfield as just two players join the Spireites' promotion campaign.

FC Halifax forward Dan Gardner joins for an undisclosed fee having scored seven goals in the Shaymen's Skrill Premiership campaign.

Goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin extends his loan deal from James Beattie's Accrington Stanley.

Gary McSheffrey leaves on a free transfer for promotion rivals Scunthorpe and Jamie Devitt leaves the Proact Stadium for mid-table Morecambe.

League Two promotion hopefuls Scunthorpe recruited experienced winger Gary McSheffrey from league leaders Chesterfield on a free transfer. They'll be hoping he provides the service for striker Paddy Madden, who joined from Yeovil, to fire them into League One.

Defender Marcus Williams rejoins The Iron on a free transfer from Sheffield United, while experienced midfielder David Syers comes in from Doncaster Rovers on loan.

Former Scotland international Chris Iwelumo is the only player to leave Glanford Park heading north to St. Johnstone on a free transfer.

It's been a fairly quiet transfer window for Doncaster Rovers with just five transfers in Januray.

Young winger Kyle Bennett leaves on loan for Bradford, hoping to get some first team experience with the League One Club.

Rovers aren't yet safe in the Championship and will be hoping striker Billy Sharp, a proven scorer in the league, will score the goals to keep them afloat during his loan from Southampton.

Paul Dickov adds some experience to the heart of his defence with the signings of 30-year-old Romanian Gabriel Tamas and former Bolton and West Brom centre half Abdoulaye Meite, both on free transfers.

Midfielder David Syers joins League Two promotion challengers Scunthorpe for an undisclosed fee.

However, it might just be the expected arrival of 1Direction star Lois Tomlinson on the February 26th that causes the biggest stir at the Keepmoat this season. Paul Dickov will be hoping that isn't the case.

Hull City might be in turmoil behind the scenes as owner Assem Allam looks to rebrand the club the "Hull Tigers", but fans, supportive or otherwise, must be encouraged by the club's transfer activity this month.

Summer signings of proven Premiership quality in Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore, who's loan deal has been extended, have been complemented with big money moves for Shane Long and Nikita Jelavic.

Despite early hiccoughs in the move, primarily from Long's pregnant wife Kayleigh, Steve Bruce got his man for a fee expected to rise to around £7 million.

Croat Jelavic moved to the KC in a World Cup year, looking first team football that could secure his place in Niko Kovac's squad for Brazil.

Former Leeds and Athletico Madrid right back Elliot Kebbie joins but is unlikely to be considered for Bruce's first team squad until next season.

It's been a busy transfer window for The Millers as they look to consolidate their status as promotion hopefuls in League One.

A deadline day deal for Crawley Town winger Nicky Adams will provide a significant boost to Steve Evans' side, adding to the capture of Miles Addison from Bournemouth.

Fans of the South Yorkshire team will be enthused by the extension of QPR striker Tom Hitchcock's loan deal and the experience of Middlesbrough midfielder Richard Smallwood, who also joins on loan.

Wes Thomas links up with boss Evans again, having worked together at Crawley. The striker joins from Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee.

Pablo Mills and former Manchester United striker Daniel Nardiello leave the club for Bury on frees, while Danny Hylton, Michael Tidser, David Worrall and Kayode Odejayi all exit on loan deals.

The signing of Nakhi Wells from Bradford City secured Town a proven goal scorer to challenge James Vaughan and Martin Patterson up front.

Young striker Joe Lolley joined from Conference Premier side Kidderminster Harries, the night he fired them into the FA Cup 4th Round.

Mark Robins also secured the signature of highly rated Norwegian midfielder Sondre Tronstad, the 18-year-old joining for an undisclosed fee from IK Start.

Liam Ridehalgh and Chris Atkinson leave the John Smith's Stadium on loan, while Robbie McIntyre leaves for Bury on a free transfer.

Premiership players drafted in to save Tykes' season

Barnsley reappointed former boss Danny Wilson just before Christmas with the club struggling in the Championship and the new manager has moved to bolster his squad for the second half of a difficult season.

In a deadline day deal, Arsenal's Ghanian internation midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong moved to Oakwell on loan for the remainder of the season, having struggled to hold down a place in Arsene Wenger's title challenging squad.

More Premiership quality was recruited in the form of Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz, Crystal Palace's Jack Hunt and Stoke's Brek Shea.

Tyke's fans will be also pleased with the decision to extend the loan deal of Liverpool's young defender Ryan McLaughlin.

Former Preston goalkeeper Iain Turner and former Irish international Liam Lawrence both joined on free transfers

After finally being given the manager's job on a permanent basis with just a week to operate in the transfer window, Stuart Gray moved for quality over quantity to boost his squad.

The Owls take former Man City defender Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer from Championship high flyers QPR.

Highly rated Arsenal youngster Benik Afobe joins on loan for the rest of the season and Gray will be hoping he can fire the resurgent club up the league to safety.

Livingstone's exciting attacking midfielder Stefan Scougall joined the Blades, with boss Nigel Clough saying he's one for the future.

Billy Paynter joins on loan from South Yorkshire club Doncaster to reinforce Clough's striking options after the departure of Febian Brandy to Walsall.

After a successful 2012/13 season, the Bantams have been flying high in League One, propelled to a strong start by the goals of Bermudan Nakhi wells.

Losing him to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town will have been a blow to Phil Parkinson's team but he moved quickly to replace the striker.

Young forward Jordan Graham arrives on loan at the Coral Windows Stadium from Aston Villa, while Adam Reach, Kyle Bennett and Chris Atkinson will add depth to the midfield, joining from Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Huddersfield respectively.

Aaron Jameson joins from Sheffield Wednesday, with the 24-year-old expected to provide cover for regular 'keeper Jon McLoughlin.

Experienced striker Aaron McClean joins from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

Leaving the club were Northampton bound duo Alan Connell and Ricky Ravenhill while Jason Kennedy rejoins old club Rochdale after making just 11 appearances since his move last summer.
