Third man held in teen murder probe

Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager who disappeared after a fatal shooting at a jeweller's shop have made a third arrest.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers detained a 34-year-old man in Nottingham earlier today on suspicion of murdering James Brodie.

Mr Brodie, then aged 19, is believed to have gone missing shortly after Mansfield jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery at her shop in September 2003.

Last week searches at a farm in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, resulted in a number of samples being sent off for scientific tests.

Two men were arrested last week on suspicion of Mr Brodie's murder, including a 31-year-old man who was later released on bail.

The other man, 32-year-old Dean Betton, of Radford, Nottingham, was chargedwith Mr Brodie's murder and appeared in court in Lincoln last week.

Police are continuing to search a house and farmland in Lincolnshire for the body of murder suspect James Brodie. He disappeared in 2003 after Mansfield jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead in a robbery.

Detectives believe Brodie was murdered after the fatal robbery and are searching the land in East Heckington for his body after receiving intelligence. On Wednesday February 6 police arrested two men on suspicion of Brodie's murder.

House of Commons roars with laughter at Richard III joke

King Richard III made a cameo appearance in Prime Minister's questions today which made the House of Commons roar with laughter.

Michael McCann Labour MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow asked David Cameron: "Can the prime minister confirm Atos have declared Richard III for for work?"

Atos is a contractor used by the government to assess whether people claiming benefits are eligible for a job.

David Cameron replied that the case had not come his way, but hoped the discovery of Richard III would be a boost to the city of Leicester.

Local men arrested for the murder of James Brodie

Two men have been arrested over the murder of James Brodie – the man wanted by police over the shooting of a jeweller in Nottingham.

The men – one from Nottinghamshire, the other Derbyshire – were arrested at separate addresses this morning and are now being questioned at Grantham police station.

Specialist officers have arrived at Maize Farm in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, where they're carrying out an in-depth search into the whereabouts of James Brodie.

Underground imagery equipment, Cadaver dogs – who search for human remains, and forensic archaeologists have now joined the search.

It's expected that an excavation may take place in the next few days.

Two arrested in James Brodie search

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of James Brodie. Brodie, who was 19, is believed to have gone missing shortly after jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery in Nottingham in 2003. He has not made any contact with family or friends in more than nine years.

The men, aged 32 and 31, were arrested early today and will be questioned throughout the day. The arrests come as searches at Maize Farm, in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, continue.
