Coronavirus case confirmed in York
A case of the Coronavirus has been confirmed in York.
The individual had recently returned from northern Italy and has followed health advice to self-isolate at home. The City of York Council's Director of Public Health Sharon Stoltz says because of this there is a "very low risk" of the virus having been transferred to others.
It comes after a hotel in the city was confirmed to be at the centre of the outbreak in England in January.
At least six other cases have been confirmed in the region. Meanwhile, around 85 people have tested positive for the virus so far in the UK.
Covid-19 was discussed at the start of a York council health and wellbeing board meeting which began on Wednesday afternoon. Health experts there said effective plans are in place to respond to new cases.
