A woman and a young girl have died and a man is seriously ill after suffering breathing difficulties on a private boat at Windermere in the Lake District.

Family pays tribute to 'two beautiful girls'

The family of Kelly Webster and Lauren Thornton, who both died from suspected gas poisoning on a boat at Lake Windermere, have paid tribute to 'two beautiful girls'.

The family said:

“Our two beautiful girls taken so tragic and so too soon. We all love you so very much words will never say. Our hearts are broken and we will miss you forever.

"Kelly and Lauren...never forgotten".

Family expected to give statement

The family of 36-year-old Kelly Webster and her 10-year-old daughter Lauren Thornton, who both died from suspected gas poisoning on a boat in Windermere, are expected to give a statement later today.

Matthew Eteson, aged 39, who was also on the boat, was taken to hospital for treatment, but was released yesterday afternoon (2nd April).

Cumbria Police say that their focus is on a generator, which was not an original part of the boat.

Windermere boat deaths latest

36-year-old Kelly Webster and her 10-year-old daughter Lauren Thornton have been named as the two people who died from suspected gas poisonings on a boat at Lake Windermere yesterday (1st April).

Matthew Eteson, aged 39, who was also on the boat and was taken to hospital for treatment, has now been released.
