Flood warnings in place across region

Flood warnings are in place across the region. Although there has been no serious flooding so far warnings remain in place around Carlisle and in the Borders. A further flood warning is likely to be issued for the Appleby area.

Environment Agency warn of more rain

Keith Ashcroft from the Environment Agency has spoken to our reporter Hannah Lomas he told her how much more rain they are expecting

" Four and a half inches of rain has fallen in Cumbria over the last 24 hrs and we're anticipating another inch and a half between now and midnight."

Flooding in Carlisle: Pictures

Some businesses in Carlisle have been flooded overnight. The sugar craft specialist shop at the Viaduct estate by English Damside was one of those hit.

Sporting facilities have been affected by the flood water. The Indoor bowls club hasn't been able to open.

Home in Peebles at risk of flooding

Eddlestone water seeping onto the streets at Cuddyside Credit: ITV Border

Residents living near Eddlestone water at the Cuddyside in Peebles have been warned to return home, as their homes are at risk at flooding. They advising people to rescue what they can and move as much as possible to higher ground and upstairs.

Rail disruption in Cumbria

Network rail have said the Carlisle to Seattle line is closed and are unable to say when it will be opened again. These are the problems:

  • A landslip in the Smardale area, near Kirkby Stephen.
  • Flooding at Stainforth Tunnel
  • Flooding at Switches farm
  • Flooding at Tatterthwaite

There is also a 20mph speed limit on the West Coast mainline at Tebay.
