NHS staff gather to pay tribute to nurse who died of coronavirus
Hospital workers gathered in the atrium of the Cumberland Infirmary to mark the loss of a nurse who passed away after a long battle with coronavirus.
The agency staff nurse, who has not been named, was 49 and from London, and had been receiving critical care for a number of weeks. He died on Sunday afternoon at Carlisle's infirmary, leaving behind a wife and four children.
At noon on Thursday, colleagues of his observed a one minute’s silence to mark the loss, followed by an applause.
A spokesperson from the trust said: "Although he was with us for only a short time, he was very much part of the team and his loss has been felt across the organisation. Our thoughts are with his children and family at this very sad time."
Interim Chief Nurse Anna Stabler told staff she has spoken to his wife who wanted to thank nursing and medical teams for his care.
