Farmhouse fire: Investigators to assess building

An investigation into a fire at a farmhouse that led to the death of a 69-year-old woman is expected to begin today.

Several fire crews from across the county were called to the property near Broughton in Furness just before 9am, on Wednesday morning, after a blaze broke out.

An elderly woman was killed and a man in his 70s, found outside of the property, was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Engineers are expected to assess the fire-damaged structure this morning to make sure it is safe for coroners to enter.

Part of the A595 was closed to traffic for a number of hours on Wednesday to allow emergency vehicles to access the remote location of the farm.
