One dead after farmhouse fire in south Cumbria
A 69-year-old woman has died and a man is injured after a fire at a farm in south Cumbria.
Fire crews from across the county were called to the property near Broughton in Furness, just before 9am this morning.
The body of a woman in her late 60s was discovered by emergency services.
A 72-year-old man was also injured in the blaze and taken to hospital to be treated. He remains in a stable condition.
Officers say they are working to identity the person who has died.
Cumbria police and the fire and rescue service are carrying out a joint inquiry to establish how the fire started.
Detective Inspector Matt Scott said: “We are treating the fire as unexplained at this stage.
“We are working closely with Cumbria Fire and Rescue investigators to establish the cause of the fire.”
Part of the A595 has been shut to allow emergency vehicles to access the remote location of the farm.
