Recycling collection is suspended for two months
Allerdale Borough Council have suspended waste collection services for two months.
Garden waste, glass, cans and plastic recycling collections will all be affected by the decision. The council say this is an attempt to reduce some of the problems that have been affecting the services.
The waste company FCC Environment introduced a new waste collection scheme at the start of April, which meant new bin collection rounds using new lorries with in-cab technology.
Bin crews have struggled to complete these new rounds, which has resulted in many bins in the area not being collected in time or at all. The suspension is an attempt to reduce these issues while the council and FCC Environment work together to find a permanent solution.
Many residents have been angered by the decision.
The public are urged to use their local recycling sites to dispose of their garden waste as well as their plastic, can and glass recycling. Allerdale Borough Council and FCC Environment have apologised on social media "for any inconvenience caused".
