New Dumfries campus remains closed over safety fears
The North West Community Campus in Dumfries remains closed due to safety fears.
The new £28million campus opened three weeks ago. Since then, two pupils and a member of staff have been injured in separate incidents.
The campus was forced to close on Friday due to an interactive whiteboard falling on a child.
Dumfries and Galloway Council will meet today to discuss contingency plans. They say they have lost confidence in any assurances they have been given in relation to the building.
Ahead of the opening, builders were forced to pull down the ceiling due to a leak.
Parents have raised concerns about the schools closure:
A spokesman for the construction company GRAHAM said: “We’ve carried out an immediate and thorough investigation into this unfortunate incident and have examined the sliding smart TV screen and its mounting brackets in conjunction with experts from the installation company. It’s clear from this examination that the screen was subject to a very high level of excessive force, which caused it to separate from the bracket.
“We await the council’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the removal of the screen from the bracket after they have spoken to the teacher and the pupil who were in the room at the time.”
