Carlisle Lake District Airport runway has now opened
A new runway has opened at Carlisle Lake District Airport - but the wait for scheduled passenger flights continues after a series of delays.
The runway development means a wider range of aircraft including private jets can now use the airport. However passengers won't be flying until spring 2019.
Scheduled passenger flights to Belfast, Dublin and Southend were originally due to begin in June but the airport announced a shortage of qualified Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) meant the start of flights would be delayed.
The initial delay was until September but that was subsequently pushed back to next year.
