Man, 90, dies after crashing into pedestrian and two cars

A 90-year-old man from Penrith has died after crashing into a pedestrian and two cars in the town.

It happened at around 2.20pm in Market Square on Monday 14 May.

The elderly man's car mounted the pavement outside HSBC.

The injured woman, aged in her 50s and also from Penrith, is at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where her condition is described as critical but stable.

Cumbria Police said she has sustained "life altering" leg injuries.

The man was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where he was pronounced dead this morning.
