Arrest made after serious collision in Dalston

An arrest has been made following a serious collision in Cumdivock, Dalston that happened last night.

At around 10.50pm a Ford Mondeo collided with a tree and the driver left the scene.

The 20-year-old passenger from Carlisle suffered serious head and chest injuries.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary and is being transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, in a critical condition.

Officers have arrested a 22-year-old man from Carlisle who is suspected to be the driver of the vehicle.

He has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, taking a vehicle without consent and failing to remain at the scene after an accident. He is currently in police custody.
