More than 2,000 oysters have been stolen from the shoreline of Loch Ryan.

The incident happened after the oysters were collected by the Loch Ryan Oyster Company.

This comes weeks before the first ever Stranraer Oyster Festival that the oysters were collected for.

The festival is being held to celebrate Stranraer's unique seafood heritage as being home to the only native oyster fishery in Scotland.

Stranraer Oyster Festival says the theft will not significantly affect the visitor experience at the event:

The Stranraer Oyster Festival will take place during Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight from 15 Friday to Sunday 17 September 2017.
