More 'Fell Care Days' have been planned for later in the year, following a successful fell care project on Saturday, 10 June, despite the wet weather.

32 volunteers and task leaders at the Friends of the Lake District's Keswick Mountain Festival took part in a range of conservation tasks including:

  • Rebuilding 8 metres of dry stone wall on Crow Park, Keswick.

  • Clearing and maintaining 17 kilometres of upland paths around Ashness Bridge and Catbells.

  • Filling up 5 huge helicopter dumpy bags with non-native invasive species Crassula cleared from Derwentwater.

Further Fell Care Days are planned for Saturday 2 September in Grasmere and Wednesday 8 November in Eskdale.

People can also partake in volunteer conservation work parties hosted by charities all year-round.

Activities include tree planting and maintenance, dry stone walling, gorse and bracken control, caring for upland paths and other conservation work.
