Carlisle-Settle rail repairs on track
Repairs to the Carlisle-Settle line in Cumbria following a major landslip are on track for completion by the end of the month.
Around 500,000 tonnes of earth gave way on a stretch of the track near Armathwaite in February 2016 after the county was repeatedly hit by flooding.
The landslip caused the ground below the railway to fall 2.5metres below its normal level during the weeks that followed, and led to a £23 million repair scheme.
A bus replacement service has operated between Carlisle and Armathwaite and Carlisle and Appleby while the line has been closed.
Network Rail engineers have described the repairs as one of the most complicated projects they've ever been involved with.
