Councillors to consider Scottish Borders' towns regeneration plans

Regeneration plans for towns across the Scottish Borders will be discussed by members of Scottish Borders Council next Tuesday, 7 March.

The proposed plans, which will be agreed on an annual basis, include the following changes to Jedburgh, Eyemouth, Galashiels and Selkirk:

Hawick:

  • Development of modern business space in the town centre

  • Development of a Townscape Heritage bid and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) bid

  • Inward investment marketing pilot

Jedburgh:

  • £1.3m CARS programme (following successful bid, announced this week)

  • Town centre marketing support

Eyemouth:

  • Town centre regeneration programme, including progress and implement Eyemouth Harbour Road Masterplan

  • Town centre review with local community and partners

Galashiels:

  • Masterplanning for town centre

  • Burgh Yard development

  • Borders Railway Ambassadors project

  • Support Galashiels Business Improvement District Scotland (BIDS) proposals

  • Inward investment marketing pilot

Selkirk:

  • Deliver streetscape works

  • Progress Sir Walter Scott Courthouse project

  • Support Selkirk BIDS proposals

A member of the council's Economic Development committee says the proposed changes would have "significant economic impacts in the town centres".
