Work to replace an historic bridge that collapsed following Storm Desmond in December 2015 is taking a major step forward.

Cumbria County Council has applied to demolish the damaged remains of Bell Bridge at Welton, near Carlisle.

This will allow a replacement structure to be built.

In November 2016 a £500,000 contract was awarded to Story Contracting, to design and build a new bridge, to replace the 200-year-old structure.
