A contract to design and build a new bridge to replace Bell Bridge at Sebergham, has been awarded by Cumbria County Council.

The 200-year-old structure collapsed and was completely washed away by Storm Desmond last winter.

Story Contracting has been awarded the contract, worth around £500,000.

Plans for the design of the bridge will be made this winter and work is expected to start during summer 2017.

This money makes the total £25 million that has been invested to help repair damaged roads and bridges across Cumbria this year.

The council expects to shortly award the next phase of contracts totalling around £8 million for a range of infrastructure repairs across the county.
