Romance of steam returns to Settle-Carlisle Railway
The romance of steam has returned to the Carlisle-Settle Railway for Valentine's Day with a traditional locomotive hauling passengers.
It's the first time in half a century that a steam train has operated on a scheduled main line service in Britain.
The Peppercorn class A1 steam locomotive, Tornado is running between Appleby and Skipton on two return journeys from today until Thursday.
The initiative has been organised by Northern Rail, Network Rail and the Friends of Settle and Carlisle.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers will patrol the route over the three days and encourage enthusiasts to enjoy the spectacle while remaining at a safe vantage point.
The first train left Appleby at 8:25am this morning.
