Landslip-hit railway line set for March re-opening
A stretch of the Carlisle to Settle railway line badly damaged by a major landslip is due to re-open on 31 March.
The line has been closed at Eden Brows between Carlisle and Armathwaite since February with bus replacement services getting passengers around the closure.
Contractors are installing a concrete and steel structure on site to sit beneath the railway line and stabilise a section of the gorge bank above the River Eden.
Once the railway is reopened Network Rail plan to carry out earthworks improvements to the foot of the embankment below the line and above the River Eden.
This will include drainage ditches and pipework, rock armour to guard against erosion when flows are high, and finally replanting trees over the entirety of the affected area.
