Police believe a huge wildfire that burned through Mosedale Common last week was a case of arson.

Mountain rescue and fire fighting teams from Penrith, Keswick and Sedbergh were called to tackle the fire near Mungrisdale, in the Lake District.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a discarded disposable barbecue, which had not been extinguished in a suitable manner.

When the fire service arrived at the scene of the blaze, they observed a silver hatchback with four male youths driving away from the area.

Police are investigating a possible case of arson, and are asking anyone with information to contact the police on 101.
