This year's Jim Clark Rally in the Scottish Borders has been cancelled.

Organisers say they have received "insufficient entries by the closing deadline to make the event financially viable".

The annual rally commemorates the life and achievements of Scotland's first Formula 1 Motor Racing Champion, Jim Clark.

However, entries closed on 23 May, and at a meeting the following day the decision was taken to cancel this year's event.

The rally was traditionally a closed road event, however after three people died when a car left the road in 2014, it took on a forest rally format.

An investigation into the deaths is awaiting a final report, after which the Lord Advocate will be due to rule on what happened.

Organisers of the rally are confident that once that ruling comes out, the event will be able to return to its closed road format.

Jim Clark Rally Club Chairman Dan Wright says cancelling the rally this year will allow them to save money to run the event in a closed road format next year.

All competitors who have entered this year's event will receive a full refund.
