Further investigations into Jim Clark Rally deaths
Scotland's chief legal officer says "further investigations" are needed into the three deaths at the 2014 Jim Clark Rally, before a decision is made about criminal proceedings or a fatal accident inquiry.
The spectators died after being hit by a car taking part in the event when it left the road near Swinton, Berwickshire.
A further five people were injured at the rally held in May last year.
Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland was responding to an update request from South of Scotland MSP Jim Hume, who asked when the Crown Office report into the rally tragedy would be published.
Mr Mulholland explained that the Crown Office's health and safety division were currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the 2014 rally.
The investigations are to determine whether there should be any criminal proceedings and if an inquiry should be held.
He added:
Scottish Borders Council withdrew permission for this year's rally to take place place on public roads while investigations by Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive were underway.
Instead the event was held in Kielder Forest, a return to its original format after 15 years of being held on closed roads.
Rally organisers are hopeful next year's event from June 3-5 can return to Berwickshire's roads.
