Plans for a new £80million plant to turn waste into energy are going on public display today.

Fortum Carlisle Limited, Kingmoor Park Properties Limited and Verus Energy Ltd are proposing the development of an energy recovery facility on Carlisle's Kingmoor Park Industrial Estate.

Verus Energy Ltd say the facility would create up to 40 jobs and will process waste from the local area into fuel to generate a sustainable form of electricity and heat.

A consultation event is being held today between 4pm and 8pm at the Kingmoor Community and Business Centre to give local residents and businesses chance to view the plans and ask questions about the development.

A planning application will be submitted to Cumbria County Council this summer.

Comments on the project can be made in person at the event, by email to info@stephenson-halliday.com or by post to Stephenson Halliday Ltd, 32 Lowther Street, Kendal, LA9 4DH, up to 13 May 2016.
