New images released in hunt for killer

More than a quarter of the images released by detectives investigating the murder of Nahid Almanea in Colchester have been identified.

The CCTV stills and moving footage were released to the public last Wednesday. As of today officers have:

• Eliminated 49 images of the 161 published
• Eliminated eight videos of the 38 which are currently live on the website
• Identified 27 people out of a possible 90

Nahid, was murdered on Tuesday 17 June on the Salary Brook Trail in Colchester. The 31-year-old, who was studying at the University of Essex, died as a result of stab wounds.

She was attacked at around 10.40am as she walked from her student accommodation in nearby Woodrow Way along the trail to the university complex in Wivenhoe.

The CCTV images show potential witnesses. They are from cameras at the barrier on the Capon Road at the University of Essex, and from cameras at Avon Way, Purcell Close, and the Hunwicke Road shops on the Greenstead estate.

Anybody who recognises themselves or anyone else in the images are asked to get in touch by calling Essex Police on 01245 282103 quoting the image reference number that they recognise.

People can also give information to the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Crimestoppers has offered a reward on £10,000 payable for information which leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Nahid’s murder.

Police say five people have been identified after more than 70 CCTV images were released in connection with the investigation into the murder of Nahid Almanea.

In total the investigation team has received 24 calls and 21 emails from members of the public.

In addition 33 names of people who may feature in the CCTV images have been provided.

An 18-year-old man who was re-arrested on suspicion of the murder of James Attfield in Colchester earlier this year has been released on bail.

James, 33, was found with more than 100 stab wounds in Castle Park off Guildford Road on Saturday March 29. He died a short time later at the scene.

So far nine people have been arrested and they are all on bail until various dates next month.

A man has been re-arrested on suspicion of the murder of James Attfield in a Colchester park earlier this year.

The 33-year-old was found with more than 100 stab wounds in Castle Park, off Guildford Road, shortly before 6am on Saturday March 29.

Yesterday, an 18-year-old man was arrested in Southend and is currently being questioned by detectives at a police station in Essex.

He was one of seven people arrested in connection with Mr Attfield's killing five days earlier.

The other six people - a 27-year-old woman from Colchester, a 27-year-old man from Colchester, a 57-year-old man from Colchester, a 25-year-old woman from Southend, a 23-year-old woman from Ipswich in Suffolk and a 31-year-old man from Colchester - were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Two other men, both aged 33, also remain on police bail until late September pending further enquiries after they were arrested in connection with Mr Attfield's death earlier this summer.

In total, nine people have been arrested as part of the murder investigation.

Six people in Essex and Suffolk have been arrested today in connection with the murder of a man in Colchester earlier this year.

James Attfield was found with more than 100 stab wounds in Castle Park off Guildford Road at around 6am on Saturday 29 March. He died a short time later.

On Thursday 7 August, six people were arrested at residential properties in Colchester, Ipswich and Southend.

Two of these six people, a 27-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man from Colchester, were on police bail after having been previously arrested in connection with the murder and have been rearrested.

A 25-year-old woman from Southend, an 18-year-old man of no fixed address, and a 57-year-old man from Colchester were arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 23 year old woman from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

All six people are being questioned by detectives at police stations across Essex and Suffolk. A number of properties in Suffolk and Essex are also been searched by police.

Two men, aged 33 of no fixed address, remain on police bail pending further enquiries until Wednesday, September 17 after also having been arrested in connection with James Attfield’s murder.

Police investigating the murder of a man in Colchester want to talk to a woman he was speaking to online the week before he died. James Attfield was stabbed over a hundred times back in March. Detectives have been reviewing Mr Attfield's Facebook account and say that a woman who he was in contact with on there could help them find out more about him. Police are also keen to hear from anyone who uses the Salary Brook Trail in the town as they continue to investigate a seperate murder. Saudi student Nahid Almanea was attacked on the pathway last month.

The family of Nahid Almanea, the Saudi Arabian student who was murdered in Colchester last month, have appealed directly to her killer to hand themselves in.

At a press conference in Chelmsford Det Con Jane Morgan, who went to Saudi Arabia to meet the family, read a statement from the family that said:

Nahid was murdered on the Salary Brook Trail in Colchester shortly before 11am on Tuesday 17 June on her way to the University of Essex.

It was a short walk from her home in Woodrow Way that she shared with her brother. They had both been in the UK for six months. Nahid, who was 31, was studying at Essex University.

Four weeks on from the murder of student Nahid Almanea in Colchester detectives have been back at the scene.

The Saudi Arabian student was found dead on the Salary Brook trail on Tuesday 17th June. The Essex University student had been stabbed 16 times.

This morning officers returned to the trail to talk to people who may have been in the area at the time of Nahid's death. 100 detectives are still working on the case.
