Bus hits bridge near Northampton General Hospital

A bus has collided with a low bridge near a hospital.

Pictures show the bus trapped underneath the bridge, with the entire roof ripped off.

The incident happened on Sunday evening, involving a Stagecoach bus.

Northampton General Hospital said it was dealing with the incident and that access to the site would be affected.

A spokesman added there had been no injuries and everyone was reported to be safe.

People were asked to avoid the area while the scene was cleared.

Witnesses posted pictures of the bus, showing the damage caused by the collision.

Northampton General Hospital said: "We are currently dealing with an incident on site where a bus has collided with a low hanging bridge. There were no injuries and everyone is safe."

"We would ask people to avoid the area while our teams work to clear the scene."

"Access to our maternity and paediatrics units will be through the area L, Cheyne Walk entrance. We will provide further updates soon."
