Northampton Town legend Theo Foley dies aged 83
Former Northampton Town player and manager Theo Foley has died at the age of 83.
Foley is considered a legend at Sixfields, having captained the club when they famously rose through the divisions to make it all the way to Division One in 1965.
The 1965-66 campaign remains the only season the Cobblers have played in the top flight.
In total, Foley made 220 appearances for Northampton, scoring 11 goals.
The Irishman was assistant to George Graham when Arsenal won the Division One title in 1989, and he then retuned to Northampton as manager a year later.
He remained in charge until 1992, at which point he lost his job when the club went into administration.
He went on to coach at Tottenham and also had a spell at Southend United as assistant manager.
In a statement, a Northampton club spokesperson said: "Northampton Town Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Cobbler Theo Foley.
"We send our condolences and best wishes to Theo’s Family and friends."
Foley's former club take on Exeter City in the League Two play-off final at Wembley on Monday.
