Norwich City midfielder Marco Stiepermann has been given special permission to return to training after revealing he was the Canaries player who tested positive for coronavirus.

A Norwich player returned a positive result for the virus last week, but the club chose not to name him.

However, the German confirmed on Instagram on Wednesday that he was the player in the question.

Following the initial positive result, Stiepermann has since returned two negative samples.

Norwich said Stiepermann had remained asymptomatic throughout.

In line with the Premier League protocols, he started a period of self-isolation, but following the two negative results, the league have now cleared him to resume training on Thursday.

It means the 29-year-old could feature in Friday's clash against Southampton, although Head Coach Daniel Farke may feel that he hasn't had enough preparation to be considered.

Norwich are bottom of the Premier League table and six points adrift of safety.
