Norwich City player who tested positive for Covid-19 returns 'negative sample'
Norwich City Sporting Director Stuart Webber has revealed a mystery player who tested positive for coronavirus has now returned a negative sample.
The Canaries confirmed on Saturday night that one of their players had tested positive for the virus in the latest round of Premier League testing.
However, speaking to The Beautiful Game Podcast, Webber said the player had a second check with the club doctor which came back negative.
The club are now trying to organise a third test, but the player will still miss Friday's game against Southampton because he has to self-isolate for seven days.
“Lucky the player in question is completely fine,” Webber said.
“There is nothing wrong with him. He has actually done an independent test with our club doctor which has come back negative. Which is confusing. So now he has to have a third test to see if that comes back negative and to check if he has any antibodies, which could perhaps prove he had it in the past but doesn’t have it right now.
“It is all very scientific. But the main thing is he is healthy and so is the rest of the group. But it is a good wake up call that even with all these measures in place one of us can still get it. That is quite scary.”
Under the Premier League protocols, any player who tests positive would have to return a negative result in an official test to be able to return to training.
In total, there has now been 16 positive results across the league from 8,687 tests.
