Beaches across East Anglia were busier on Sunday as people made the most of sunny weather and the easing of lockdown measures.

Cloudy skies for much of Saturday meant many people chose to stay away from resorts along the East coast, but as the mercury rose on Sunday, so did the number of visitors.

Hunstanton was noticeably busier than it has been in recent weeks as people headed to the North Norfolk coast to relax in the sunshine, and it was a similar story inland at parks and open spaces.

Hottest places in the Anglia region on Sunday

  • Santon Downham, Suffolk 20.2C

  • Cavendish, Suffolk 19.6C

  • Tibenham, Norfolk 19.5C

The majority of people were correctly following social-distancing measures and keeping two metres apart from others.

This is the first weekend since lockdown rules were relaxed slightly in England, with people now allowed to spend as much time as they want outdoors for leisure activities like sunbathing.

There's also no longer a limit on how far people can travel.

The Leader of Tendring District Council had told ITV News Anglia on Saturday that he was pleased with how many people had still chosen to stay at home instead of traveling to places like Clacton.

"Unfortunately we're not able to take money off people at the moment, we've got no facilities to offer them," he said.

"We haven't even been able to get the toilets opened yet so please carry on doing what you're doing everyone and stay at home until this is all over."

However, with temperatures set to rise again over the coming days, there are renewed fears that people will flock to the coast in greater numbers to take advantage of the warm weather.
