Rise in coronavirus deaths in the Anglia region after weekend decline

A further 47 patients with coronavirus have died in hospitals in the Anglia region in the largest daily increase in the figures for five days.

It follows a decline in the numbers released by NHS England which do tend to dip immediately following the weekend because of a time lag in the reporting of the information from hospitals.

On Monday, the NHS announced 17 people had died in hospitals in the Anglia region and a further 41 deaths were announced on Tuesday. Last Wednesday the daily total of hospital deaths was 52 indicating there is still a steady decline in the number of patients passing away with the disease.

The total number of hospital patients who have died in the Anglia region is now 3,154 but when the number of people dying in care homes, hospices, in their own homes and elsewhere in the community are included the total is more than 4,400.

It was announced that a further ten Covid-19 patients had lost their lives in the two major hospitals in Northamptonshire.

There are eight more deaths at Kettering General which occurred between 9th and 12th May with one patient dying on 1st May. Northampton General reported a further two patients dying on 11th May.

In total, 72 patients have died at the two Northamptonshire hospitals in the past fortnight.

In Bedfordshire, the Luton & Dunstable hospital reported an additional eight patients had died at the beginning of May.
