A nurse who spent three weeks in intensive care with coronavirus has finally been allowed to go home.

Leonora Burnell, also known as 'Nora', was cheered and applauded by her colleagues at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital as she was wheeled out.

The hospital posted a heart-warming video of the moment she was discharged.

In the footage, Leonora can be seen waving back to her colleagues who made a guard of honour for her.

Leonora has worked at the hospital for 18 years and is a senior sister on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

She was picked up by her husband Julian who said he was "eternally grateful to the NHS" for saving his wife's life.

Yvonne Millar, Interim Lead Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, said: “We are so happy today. It has been a difficult time and we’ve all been very worried, but we’re so pleased Nora has recovered enough to go home. Our love and best wishes are with her and her family.”

The video attracted a big response on social media as Twitter and Facebook users posted their best wishes.
